Yay! A letter meme. (Hush, I'm easily amused. Allow me this. I'm also thinking book review today. I can have something silly!) I got a C from mercurychaos! Squee!
Rules: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your IJ/LJ, including an explanation what the word means to you and why.
- Crystal. Well, this one is kind of obvious. XD It's my first name. I actually love my name, though when I was a kid I wanted something more regal. Or less cheerleader. But I suppose that as much as the name affects you, you affect the name, and I kind of hope I've made it fit me. At least it's not Bubbles.
- Copyright. This ones kind of big for me, because I'm a fanfic writer. Thus copyright really itches at me. I can understand sort of why music is being so protected, but music works a lot more virally when it's free to snag. Most of the CDs I buy are due to downloads I liked. Also, there's some CDs which are just impossible to get offline. As far as fanfiction and fanart goes, I don't see how it has absolutely any affect other than a positive one. The owners (in America, at least) think that it might chase people away from the original, or change their view of it, but not anymore than a good in-depth conversation. I think it's more likely to attract a new audience. I found Harry Potter through fanfiction, and have since shelled out some major money for merchandise.
- Captain. As in Captain Jack Sparrow. I want to read the newest Taxes, damn it! And then write some more for Robyn! It's a short fic, but it's supposed to encompass a lot of time between Prologue and Epilogue. So gr! Must write!
- CC. Or, in other words, Carbon Copy. I have to Carbon Copy every blasted e-mail I send from work. Sometimes it drives me insane. (Especially when I forget.) Do I really need records of "See you in 5"?
- Comments. I is addicted, precious. XD I check my comments constantly, even when I'm too brain-dead to reply. Sad, I know.
- CGS. I've honestly no clue what the acronym means, but for me it translated as "Computer Generated Suffering". Here at TCC, the CGS courses are the "computer literacy", which means even the most basic whizzes right through things like the mouse or file organization and head straight for Microsoft Office. I know for a fact that most of the students in this school are computer-incompetent, even if they can check their MySpace. This isn't their fault, since it's an inevitable product of an economy which perpetuates a under-paid over-worked society. The result on my end is that I'm often dealing with people who don't know what the difference between a browser and operating system is.
- Cousins. I have too many to name, between both sides of my family. Sometimes I think it's odd that I have so much contact with them. Other people seem to treat their nuclear family as the norm, but I've got extended family out the ears! This isn't always a good thing.
- Coffee. Should have been at the top of the list. Over and above LJ, above sleep and oxygen, coffee is my drug of choice.
- Characterization. I may not look like it, but I'm a complete snob for IC characters. I don't mean "by canon" IC. I mean IC for the fic. For example: Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition by the lovely Mirabella. It's crack!fic, that's for sure. But at the same time Harry is IC. At least, he's IC for a Harry who has been suddenly turned into a vampire with marginal self-control who finds himself lusting after Draco's blood and other bodily fluids. If you want an angsty Sora, damn well give him a reason to angst! And it had better be fleshed out too, because "Woe is me, I have a tragic past. On with the whining!" doesn't cut it. An insanely cheerful Heero had better be on some sort of mind-alerting chemical, and when Vegeta acts femme I hope he's plotting suicide. /rant
- Ce'nedra. XD mercurychaos made me think of this one with her Sadi comment. Ce'Nedra pretty much represents my first heroine. (I probably prefer my hair red because of her, but it could also be because my Grandma had red hair. Also someone the Warlock Inspite of Himself series and someone else from a world where magic created a white streak - the more white, the more powerful a magic user. THERE WERE DRAGONS and a Shadow Horse and I can't remember what the series was!) She's got backbone, but there's also some serious uncertainty there. She spends a lot of the Belgariad trying to figure out who she is under all the trappings of what she is. On the other hand, she gets the usual wimpy-heroine position. *SIGH* But Ce'Nedra totally kicks butt.
